We are organizing to promote a NYS bill mandating cameras in special needs classrooms and to support a federal bill, The Keeping All Students Safe Act, which will reduce and regulate the use of restraint and seclusion in schools.
We aim to gather concerned citizens from every legislative district in NY to make their representatives aware of these bills and to demand their support.
This website provides letter templates, phone call scripts, and easy links to your representatives and their contact information.
Just a little bit of work from each of us will push this bill through.
A brief history
To date, four states have passed laws related to the installation of cameras in special education classes.
In New York, a bill to this purpose died in committee in the 2019-2020 Legislative Session. It needs a new sponsor, and to be re-introduced, but mostly, IT NEEDS US to communicate with our representatives and with our communities.
The Keeping All Students Safe Act has garnered significant support recently, but it remains largely unknown to our legislators. Together, we will work to gain the support of our representatives.
Where we are today
In just a few weeks, we have gathered over 200 concerned parents, educators and friends from all over the state.
The New York State legislature will reconvene in January 2022. This gives us time to build awareness in our communities and to establish relationships with our representatives.
